Senior Systems Engineer

Job summary

The Senior Systems Engineer will consult with all areas of IT to assist in the architecture, design, build, and maintenance of the infrastructure within our existing data centers and Cloud environments. The Senior Systems Engineer will both service our internal infrastructure, and our clients’ environments.

Summary of essential job functions

  • Collaborate with all IT Teams and Client Care to implement Cloud and/or Hybrid IT solutions that support our clients’ needs
  • Provide daily support of our clients’ IT infrastructure via service tickets
  • Participate in 24×7 on-call rotations
  • Be assigned as a technical resource for internal and client projects
  • Assist in pre-sales activity with Client Care and Solutions Architects
  • Participate in architecture and design sessions related to IT strategy
  • Develop automated methods to remediate and mitigate system events and minimize operational complexity
  • Mentoring of junior consulting staff
  • Create and update technical documentation
  • Expertise aligning business objectives with technical solutions
  • Other duties as assigned
  • Must be able to push, pull, move and/or lift a minimum of 50 pounds to a minimum height of 3 feet

Minimum Qualifications

  • Successful completion of a full 4-year course of study in an accredited college or university leading to a bachelor’s or higher degree in a major such as computer science, information technology, or related; or appropriate combination of education and work experience
  • 5+ years experience in IT systems administration
  • 3+ years experience in SQL DBA role. In addition to daily SQL Server database administration, must have experience in all the following:
  • SQL Performance Tuning and Optimization
  • SQL backups, restores, and recovery models
  • SQL High Availability and Disaster Recovery
  • Analytical skills including critical thinking, decision making, problem-solving
  • Project management skills including collaboration and teamwork, organizational skills, and managing clients’ expectations
  • Diagnoses and correlates complex system problems identifies root causes, and develops remediation strategies
  • Ability to prioritize and perform a variety of concurrent tasks with minimal supervision
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills.

Necessary Skills

  • Proven technical experience in design, system installations/upgrades/migrations, deployment administration, and or support of Microsoft Server technologies – Microsoft Windows Server, SQL, Exchange
  • Experience building and supporting cloud, hybrid, and on-premise infrastructure for business applications
  • Advanced working knowledge and experience with VMware Administration and Design 6.0/6.5/6.7. 3+ years’ experience preferred.
  • Advanced working knowledge, and hands-on support of Microsoft Server Administration (2012 – 2019). 5+ years’ experience will be required.
  • Advanced working knowledge, and hands-on support of Microsoft SQL (2012 – 2019). 3+ years’ experience will be required
    • Manage SQL Server databases
    • Configure and maintain database servers and processes
    • Monitor system’s health and performance
    • Ensure high levels of performance, availability, sustainability, and security
    • Analyze, solve, and correct issues in real-time
    • Provide suggestions for solutions
    • Refine and automate regular processes, track issues, and document changes
    • Assist developers with query tuning and schema refinement
    • Provide 24×7 support for critical production systems
    • Perform scheduled maintenance and support release deployment activities after hours.
  • Advanced working knowledge and experience with Active Directory, Azure AD, and Group Policy Management
  • Advanced working knowledge and experience with storage solution capabilities such as LUN and RAID management, SAN and NAS management, and storage networking. We use EMC products.
  • Advanced working knowledge and experience with data backup, disaster recovery, replication, and failover solutions
  • Working knowledge and experience with Microsoft Azure Cloud Compute
  • Working knowledge and experience with TCP/IP networking and routing
  • Automation via the use of Remote Monitoring and Management tools, and PowerShell
  • Advanced troubleshooting skills to determine the root cause

Preferred Qualifications

  • Microsoft MCSE, MSDBA, or new Role-based certifications
  • Azure Solutions Architect or Azure Administrator certifications
  • VMware VCP/VCAP
