“Electronic Health Records Technology” Webinar a Success

Discover the role of electronic health records technology in long-term care with ProviNET’s EMR Expert, Joe Velderman ::

ProviNET’s live webinar presented last week on June 5, 2013, hosted by Care Innovations, was a great success! Attendees from 34 states discovered the role of technology in long-term care and how electronic health records can benefit their organization. The expert webinar speakers, Eric Dishman and Joe Velderman, presented ideas on the importance of transitioning from a paper-based to a digital world, enabling long-term care facilities to better care for their residents and clients within the care network.

During the webinar, a survey poll question was presented to the attending group asking, “What are your top two priorities when it comes to electronic health records?” 84% of the polled attendees stated that “Improving care coordination” was their top priority, with “Integrating with 3rd party vendors like hospitals, pharmacies, and labs” being the second priority, polling at 51%.

“If you don’t have all of your healthcare data digital, then you can’t do virtual care that “Care Anywhere” requires, in a confident and trust worthy way. You can’t do care networking because you can’t have all eyes on the team on the same data, if it’s not digital, and sharable, and secure.” stated Eric Dishman, Director of Health Care Policy at Intel.

Joe Velderman, Director of Consulting Services and Information Technology at ProviNET Solutions, discussed the differences between EMR (electronic medical records) and EHR (electronic health records), including the distinction between the two terms and the upcoming governmental regulations surrounding the electronic health records mandate.

A question during the webinar came about asking, “Why is it important to get on board early?” Joe Velderman responded, “With a fully functional EHR, all the members of the care team have ready access to the latest information, allowing for more coordinated, resident-centered care.” Joe also shared a case study of a current ProviNET client, which was an early adopter of EHR. He spoke about their objectives, steps, and results of implementing a full EMR/EHR program within their facility.

“With a fully functional EHR, all the members of the care team have ready access to the latest information allowing for more coordinated, resident-centered care.” stated Mark Nunnikhoven

Learning about the technology available in the long-term care industry is challenging in today’s EMR/EHR technology age. Still, Joe and Eric shared several key ideas you can take to overcome these obstacles.
