51-50

MARCH 31, 2010

Sounds like a Van Hagar album, but it’s the final score for the Run PMDC- ProviNETS basketball game. Although Joe “Swish” Velderman and the ProviNETS kept up a steady rain of 3-pointers, the height and gumption of Run PMDC won out.

Special thanks to the Highland Christian School for hosting the battle and Jack Rudenga of Illiana Christian High School, who was the IHSA-certified referee that called our game. We’re very grateful to Jack, who was an island of calm in a frenzied sea of players.

We had a ball during the 48 intense minutes of play (pun intended), which came right down to the wire. Perhaps Run PMDC’s edge came from practicing two times more than the ProviNETS- twice, to be precise. They definitely came with a game plan, which may have included hiring tall employees for years just to challenge us.

We ProviNETS have no regrets; it was a fun and mostly fair game. There WILL be a rematch- of that there is no doubt! Perhaps this will even turn into a series of sporting events. Is programming a sport? No? Too bad- we’re great at that. Softball, no longer an Olympic sport, seems an obvious choice for the next contest. Await our challenge, Run PMDC!

A few player notes:

Run PMDC’s Larry “The Accountant” Otte showed that Airport screeners can take some lessons from his hands-on defensive style. “Pistol” Pete Hanegraaf’s, rock-solid basketball skills clearly revealed him to be a ringer. Josh “Boards” DeBusschere kept ProviNET in the game by pulling in at least 15 rebounds and Kyle “Hussle” Sheely always seemed to be in several places at once on the court, causing turnovers.
